What is the Web?¶
The Web is the AMI component responsible for transforming data from multiple sources into unified visualizations that users interact with through their Dashboard Sessions.
This page provides an introduction to AMI Web and its core concepts.
Overview¶
The Web is AMI's browser-based visualization tool for building highly customizable and interactive applications, ideal for complex data analysis and presentation.
It can transform and fuse high-volume data from multiple sources including AMI Centers, feeds, databases, and third-party data sources into a unified view for visualization. It supports a variety of popular visualizations such as tables, trees, charts, and heatmaps.
The Web also enables custom user workflows such as form-based data entry and automated PDF generation. Additionally, Web supports interoperability through integrated email and iCalendar functionality within a Dashboard.
AMI Web Architecture¶
The Web is both a server-side process that hosts user Sessions and a browser-based interface through which users interact with their applications.
When a user logs into AMI Web, it creates a Dashboard associated with that user Session. The Dashboard represents the user's running application. Its resources, such as visualizations and underlying data transformations, are instantiated from a Layout file.
See the table below for a brief description of key AMI Web concepts.
Note
Multiple users can load the same Layout, but each Session gets its own independent Dashboard instance and server-side state.
Key Web Concepts¶
These are the core Web-specific terms that users will encounter when developing in AMI. More information can be found in their dedicated pages throughout the Web section.
| Concept | Description |
|---|---|
| Session | A user's active connection to AMI Web, holding their identity, Session variables, and an associated Dashboard. |
| Dashboard | The running application instance for a user Session. |
| Layout | The .ami file that defines a Dashboard's structure and resources. |
| Window | A top-level container within a Layout that defines the structural framework of an application. |
| Tab | A named subdivision of a Window for organizing Panels into discrete sections. |
| Divider | A horizontal or vertical split within a Window or Tab for controlling Panel arrangement. |
| Panel | A visual unit placed inside a Layout's structure, e.g: tables, trees, charts, custom HTML, and more. |
| Datamodel | The processing layer that queries, transforms, and delivers data to Panels. |
